I thought I’d share a little bit of my process by showing Step by Step how I prepare for a single shot. 

The shot I’ll be using as an example is this one:

So every sequence of shots in the film starts as a thumbnail storyboard:

Then I create an animatic based on the storyboard:

Then I do some sketches:

Then I throw the final sketches on the lightbox and create a water color version:

Then I cut out the paintings and scan them into photoshop:

I key out the blue screen background in after effects and organize all the pieces in photoshop.

And finally, I can go crazy in after effects:

“And when the light is green, the trap is clean.” Done.
